Looking to order expandable plastic nuts? In the automotive sector plastic nuts and bolts offer a lightweight and corrosion-resistant alternative to metal fasteners. Due to its properties, the nuts are ideal for applications such as components, electrical housings and interior panels. View all plastic nuts in our category and place an order.

Anti-corrosive expandable plastic nut

Like the name already implies, an expandable plastic nut expands when tightened. These anti-corrosive nuts are designed to provide strong fastening without the risk of rust or degradation over time, making them an excellent choice for environments exposed to moisture, chemicals or vibrations. Overall, plastic nuts and bolts are commonly used in the automotive industry because they offer flexibility and ease of installation.

Ideal for electrical housing and interior panels

As mentioned earlier, plastic nuts are ideal for use in electrical housings. Cars rely on plastic fasteners to secure electrical components, wiring harnesses and circuit boards. Plastic provides insulation properties, meaning that the risk of electrical conductivity and short circuits are reduced. Unlike metal fasteners these nuts do not interfere with sensitive electronic components or signals, making them a preferred choice in electrical enclosures, circuit boards and control panels.

Also when it comes to the interior of the vehicle expandable plastic nuts are a highly preferred solution. In comparison to its metal counterparts these nuts made of plastic are beneficial. They help secure interior panels, dashboards and trim components without adding unnecessary weight to the vehicle. Additionally, plastic nuts prevent issues such as rattling or squeaking, which can occur with metal fasteners.

Short availability of nuts and bolts through the Facil webshop

When in need of specific plastic nuts and clips due to OEM-indicated specifications, smaller companies tend to not have direct access to suppliers that operate on a large scale, thus making it challenging to source the required fasteners or other parts in a timely manner. This can lead to delays in production or assembly processes. Facil is a trusted webshop that specializes in high-quality fastening solutions, including a wide range of cable ties, plugs, rivet plugs, trim pins and tube clips for automotive applications.

How to remove a stuck plastic nut?

Albeit not very common, an expandable plastic nut can sometimes become stuck due to factors such as over-tightening, heat exposure or dirt buildup. To safely remove a plastic nut that is stuck, you can follow these steps:

  • Loosening by hand: try to gently but steadily turn the nut counterclockwise with either your fingers or a wrench
  • Grip enhancement: if the nut is difficult to turn with your hand’s strength, use a rubber grip pad, pliers or a wrench with a cloth to provide better grip without further damaging the plastic
  • Lubrication: if the nut is still stuck, apply a small amount of penetrating oil around the threads and allow it to sit for a few minutes before trying again

In case none of these methods work, we advise to carefully cut a slit along the side of the nut with a utility knife and pry the nut open with a flatheaded screwdriver.
