Washers – Spacers
Spacers
Washers
In the automotive industry washers and spacers are used to enhance the performance of mechanical assemblies. Both mechanical components are usually made of durable materials for even better resistance to mechanical stress. Each product in the assorted category features detailed product information. Discover all types of washers and spacers in our webshop.
What is the difference between a washer and a spacer?
Washers are typically thin, flat discs with a hole in the center, that are placed between a fastener and a surface to distribute load, prevent damage and reduce vibration. On the other hand, spacers are cylindrical or ring-shaped components used to create distance between parts, ensuring proper alignment and reducing friction. These mechanical components are not interchangeable as each serves a distinct function. Washers primarily provide stability and protection by evenly distributing pressure, while spacers are designed to maintain a fixed gap between components, preventing unwanted contact and ensuring precise alignment.
The reliability of washers and spacers
The reliability of washers and spacers ensures the longevity and safety of mechanical structures, such as in vehicles. Washers help prevent fasteners from loosening due to vibrations and provide a stable surface to distribute pressure evenly. This is especially important in applications such as automotive engines and other machinery. Spacers help maintain precise distance between components, preventing misalignment and unnecessary wear.
The materials that the parts are made of, such as stainless steel such, aluminum, brass or nylon, enhance their overall durability, but the correct option may also depend on the specifics of the application at hand. For example, stainless steel washers and spacers offer corrosion resistance and strength, making them ideal for high-stress environments. Nylon components provide lightweight and non-conductive properties, which are highly beneficial in electrical applications. Lastly aluminum and brass spacers are commonly used when weight reduction or specific conductivity properties are required.
Wheel spacers
Wheel spacers are a very distinct type of spacer. Primarily used to adjust the spacing of wheels for improved handling, stability, and aesthetics, wheel spacers create additional distance between the wheel and the hub assembly. This extra space can enhance cornering performance and overall vehicle balance while driving. These types of spacers are commonly used in performance and off-road vehicles to accommodate larger tires or to correct fitment issues. Generally, not all four wheels require the addition of wheel spacers.
Direct access to mechanical parts
It often occurs that smaller automotive companies do not have direct access to mechanical parts indicated by OEM’s. Facil aims to fill the gap by providing a reliable and efficient supply chain, ensuring that even smaller companies can access high-quality mechanical parts that meet OEM specifications. This quick availability of all types of components can shorten lead times and increase productivity without the need of time-consuming supplier contracts.
